Library Services

Our Library contains a specialized collection of books and media dedicated to women’s self-help and empowerment. Our space is designed for you to locate information of interest or necessity, either on your own or with staff assistance. Five computers offer free internet access for job searching and research as well as educational software for resume building and typing. Library staff can assist with reference questions, computer use, photo - copies, and local fax services. Fresh Start’s unique library also holds original art, resource pamphlets, and women’s magazines.

How Can We Help?

Computer Support

The Fresh Start Library staff can provide general computer assistance to clients whether they are updating their resume or signing up for an email account.  We are happy to direct you to useful web resources and support you along the way.

Free Internet Access

All five library computers are equipped with free internet access for online searching, email access, and web-based job applications.  Computer use is limited to 30 minutes per session if other clients are waiting; however, there is no limit to the number of computer sessions a client has per day.

Fax Services

The Fresh Start Library can send up to five faxes for you per day to local and toll-free numbers.  There is no charge for this service.

Photocopying

Each client is welcome to up to ten photocopied pages per day for free.

Information Literacy

The American Library Association states that “to be information literate, a person must be able to recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information”. Knowing where to find reliable information and how to use it is important to every woman both personally and professionally.  The Fresh Start Library believes that increasing information literacy among women can help them be more informed, confident decision makers.  We strive to increase information literacy among our clients through print resources and staff guidance.

Audio Visual Collection

Our audiovisual collection contains video presentations, audio recordings, and movies.  Topics range from self-esteem to financial planning.  The Library provides private study cubicles equipped with video and stereo equipment for using the audiovisual collection.  All items are part of our reference collection and may not be checked out.

Book Collection

The Fresh Start Library book collection consists of materials on the same topics found in our Program Catalog.  We are designed as a self-directed service where women can either seek out further information after attending a workshop or simply research a topic of personal interest.  Currently, our collection is for library use only, but we anticipate beginning to check books out to the public soon.  Our collection is organized by the following subjects:
