The Center Offers

Fresh Start 101
Our friendly staff provides an overview of services offered at the Center and describes how to access and utilize services in each department. Information about and referral to community agencies are provided. Any woman seeking information about Fresh Start's services is encouraged to attend Fresh Start 101. (No charge)

Personal Development Services
Masters-level empowerment specialists work with women to prioritize their needs, develop an action plan and refer them to appropriate resources within the Center or with other community agencies. (No charge)

Family Law Support Services
Women can obtain assistance from our staff domestic relations attorney, legal assistant and certified legal document preparer who specialize in domestic-relations cases such as divorce, child custody and child support. No charge for consultation. (Document preparation, $10 and $20)

Career Services
Fresh Start offers a computerized center offering resources for education, job training and employment searches. This self-directed center offers women education about popular job sites and provides handouts to help in the job search process. Mentoring Program
A unique opportunity for professional women from the community to volunteer as Mentors for women in transition. Mentees work toward goals that include professional growth and/or educational advancement with the support and guidance of their mentor. (No charge)

Library Services
The Fresh Start Library contains a specialized collection of books and media dedicated to women’s self-help and empowerment. Five computers offer free internet access for job searching and research as well as educational software for resume building and typing. Library staff can assist with reference questions, computer use, photocopies, and local fax services. Our unique library also holds original art, resource pamphlets, and women’s magazines. The Fresh Start Library is a space designed so women can locate information of interest or necessity, either on their own or with staff assistance. (No charge)

Education Services
Opportunities to access more than 140 workshops and support groups monthly that are taught by leading professionals on a variety of subjects relevant to the immediate needs of women. ($5 fee)

Self-Esteem Services
Personalized assistance and workshops created to enhance women’s outer beauty and boost self-esteem through wardrobing choices, haircuts, grooming tips and more. ($5 for workshop fees)

Child Watch
The YMCA, in partnership with Fresh Start, provides Child watch services for children ages infant through 12 years. These services are available on site for women who are attending classes or utilizing the Center’s diverse array of resources. Child watch services are on a first come, first served basis. (No charge)

of an inability to pay.

 

Financial Fitness Book

In 1996 Fresh Start published a book that helps women understand the basics of finance. In this handy, practical 228-page workbook, women will learn budget basics, how to teach their children about money and identifying triggers to keep good credit. Written in both English and Spanish, “A Woman’s Guide to Taking Charge – Basic Tools for Managing Your Money” is on sale at the Jewell McFarland Lewis-Fresh Start Women’s Resource Center. Cover price is $14.95, however copies are on sale at the Center for just $7.00.
