2007 Charity Golf Classic

The 13th Annual Fresh Start Charity Golf Classic was held on Friday, November 9th at the Starfire Golf Club in Scottsdale. Hosted by the Fresh Start Men’s Board, it was a unique and a truly fun experience. Presented by the Diversified Partners, this action-packed event featured 18 holes of golf with a car on every hole and 18 chances to win a brand new Infiniti automobile. Unfortunately no one hit the hole-in-one shot this year to win a vehicle, but there were prizes for closest to the pin on each hole, and a chance to win one million dollars for select participants in the hole-in-one shoot-out.

A highlight of the event was the first Men’s Board Technology Training Scholarship, presented to Fresh Start woman, Joan Gibson, to improve her computer skills and support future career goals.

The 2007 Charity Golf Classic netted nearly $225,000, which directly benefits the Jewell McFarland Lewis - Fresh Start Women’s Resource Center.

The Men’s Board has hosted the fundraiser since 2000 when they first committed to raising over $750,000 in five years for Fresh Start. The group has exceeded its goal by raising nearly $1,709,000 to benefit the Foundation’s unique self-help center for women.

Starting Fresh Helps Women Return to School

On Saturday, August 6th, the Third Annual Starting Fresh event was held at the Women's Resource Center. The event was sponsored by the 1st National Bank of Arizona. 88 women attended the event which featured workshops on getting scholarships, financial aid, alternative delivery of courses and how to get started. There were representatives from 13 colleges and universities in the state, two schools of post-high school vocational education and a representative from an organization that provides student loans. All of the women were delighted with the presentations and the opportunity to get information on various schools. They also very much enjoyed their book bags filled with school supplies provided by 1st National Bank of Arizona.

The best part is that women who registered for classes were eligible to enter a drawing for one of three $500 scholarships, also provided by the bank. Of the women attending the event 98% were returning to school in the near future.
